Biography:
Spawn, a creation of Image Comics, debuted in Spawn #1 in 1992. Formerly Albert Francis "Al" Simmons, a highly skilled US Marine and CIA operative, he was murdered during a mission.
Simmons made a deal with Malebolgia, one of the rulers of Hell, to return to Earth and see his wife, Wanda Blake. He was resurrected as a Hellspawn, a creature with immense power and a limited time to serve in Hell's army.
Upon his return, five years had passed. Wanda had moved on and married his best friend, Terry Fitzgerald. Spawn is left to grapple with his new existence, his deteriorating appearance, and the growing influence of his symbiote suit, all while struggling against the forces of both Heaven and Hell.
Throughout the comic series, Spawn acts as a vigilante in the alleys of New York City, fighting organized crime and supernatural threats as he struggles to find his own path and escape the servitude of Hell.
